Actuarial Analyst

This is a new opportunity in a growing actuarial team. This role will be responsible for performing actuarial calculations and will contribute to key financial decisions by the business. They will also play a pivotal role in assisting the actuarial team to accelerate the in-housing of actuarial models and valuation/capital processes.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Valuation and Capital Reporting
  • On a quarterly basis support the valuation and capital processes, building knowledge of AASB17 requirements and LAGIC capital.
  • Actuarial Modelling and Analysis:
  • Provide support for the in-housing of actuarial models, including preparing specifications, and provide ongoing support in refining and maintaining the models.
  • Support regular reviews of valuation methodologies and reporting requirements.
  • Support actuarial investigations to review and update actuarial assumptions.
  • Data Management and Validation
  • Contribute to the management and validation of policy data, ensuring accuracy and integrity for actuarial calculations.
  • Actuarial Support
  • Provide support to the Senior Actuary and wider actuarial team as required potentially including preparing reports on the results of experience investigations, valuations, business planning and statutory returns.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation
  • Support the actuarial function in assessing and mitigating insurance and financial risks associated with NobleOak’s products.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, underwriting, marketing, claims, IT, finance, and data. Contributing in key projects and forums where actuarial input is required.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • High Quality and Accurate Communication Communication with internal and external stakeholders, providing support across the Product, Actuarial and Finance teams when required.
  • Process Improvement – Contribute to process improvement and automation in the Actuarial team.
  • Planning and Execution – Provide input to company-wide planning and issues resolution and help support the execution of our NobleOak operational plan, including key business initiatives
  • Quality Control – Operate as an important quality controller for the business, ensuring all product project processes are delivered in a timely manner ensuring continued high satisfaction rates.
  • Delivery focus – Understanding and striving to meet or exceed all metrics and KPIs while providing excellent consistent customer service.

Desired Skills and Experience

Capabilities

  • Strong understanding of life insurance actuarial concepts.
  • Strong understanding of Life insurance industry and market, including competitors’ products in the direct life insurance market.
  • Good understanding of the legal and compliance environment of the Life insurance industry.
  • You showcase the confidence, capability and prioritising skills to navigate competing demands. You thrive in fast paced environment and deal with ambiguity, effectively managing the often-changing priorities.

  • Strong numerical skills and experience with Excel.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in retail life insurance
  • Studying towards becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or overseas equivalent)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. 
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, Python and database programming (SQL) are desirable.
  • Developed experience in and knowledge of retail life insurance, ideally within the Australian marketplace.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of life insurance from first principles
